Our Review Methodology
Transparency is core to our mission. Here is exactly how we evaluate every supplement we review.
How We Evaluate Supplements
Our review process is designed to provide you with accurate, unbiased information based on the best available scientific evidence. We do not accept payment from supplement companies, and our editorial team operates independently from any advertising relationships.
Each supplement review involves hours of research, analysis, and expert review. Below, we outline the exact steps we follow for every product evaluation.
Our 5-Step Review Process
Research & Evidence Gathering
We begin by conducting a comprehensive literature review for each ingredient in a supplement. This includes searching PubMed, Cochrane Library, and other peer-reviewed databases for clinical trials, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews. We prioritize human studies over animal or in-vitro research.
Ingredient Analysis
Each ingredient is evaluated for its form, dosage, and bioavailability. We compare the amounts used in the supplement against clinically effective doses established in research. We also assess whether the ingredient form used is the same as what was studied.
Safety Assessment
We review potential side effects, drug interactions, and contraindications for each ingredient. We check for third-party certifications (NSF, USP, ConsumerLab) and investigate the manufacturer's quality control practices and history.
Expert Medical Review
Every review is examined by our medical review board, which includes board-certified physicians and pharmacists. They verify the accuracy of health claims, ensure appropriate safety warnings, and confirm the content meets clinical standards.
Ongoing Updates
Science evolves, and so do our reviews. We monitor new research and update our content when significant new evidence emerges. Each review displays its publication and last-updated dates for transparency.
Evidence Rating System
We rate the evidence supporting each ingredient using a standardized system based on the quality and quantity of available research:
Multiple high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or meta-analyses support the claimed benefit at the dose provided.
Some clinical evidence exists, but studies may be limited in number, size, or quality. More research is needed to confirm benefits.
Only preliminary research (animal studies, small human trials, or observational data) supports the claimed benefit.
No credible evidence supports the claimed benefit, or existing evidence contradicts manufacturer claims.
